      Therapeutic Approaches

      Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

CB Therapy aims to change thought patterns in order to change moods, thoughts, and behaviors. The hallmarks of therapy are evaluating cause and effect relationships among thoughts and feelings and behaviors as well as using straight forward strategies to decrease symptoms and reduce avoiding behaviors. The broad goal is to develop more positive responses to stressors. Examples of therapy options are: guided imagery, relaxation exercises, aromatherapy, music and art therapy.

I work with you to identify specific negative thought patterns and behavioral responses to challenging or stressful experiences.

      Reality Therapy

Essential human needs must be balanced and met for a person to function most effectively. This form of therapy helps to reveal how and why some patterns may not be beneficial to an individual. Examples of therapy options: self evaluation, reframing and behavioral rehearsal.

      Solution Focused Therapy

SF Therapy allows you to find solutions to your problems rather than just dwelling on the problem. The therapeutic focus is on the future rather than past problems or current conflict. As a result of finding a solution to the problem(s), stress/anxiety symptoms may be reduced and interpersonal relations may improve. The aim of therapy is to explore alternative solutions that may not have been considered.

      Gestalt

At the core of Gestalt therapy is the holistic view that we are linked to and influenced by our environment and that all people strive toward growth and balance. Therapy helps clients to take responsibility for their actions and accept and trust their emotions. In therapy clients may discover suppressed feelings and gain a new sense of self as overall awareness increases.

      EMDR

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is a psychotherapy approach which allows one to heal from trauma or other distressing life experiences such as PTSD, anxiety, depression , and panic disorders. Research studies show that EMDR is very effective in helping people process emotionally painful and traumatic experiences. When used in conjunction with other therapy modalities, EMDR helps move the client quickly from emotional distress to peaceful resolution of the issues or events involved. Studies consistently show that treatment with EMDR results in elimination of the targeted emotion. The memory remains, but the negative response neutralizes.

      Play Therapy

Play Therapy is a psychotherapy approach to therapy, used primarily with children, allowing them to utilize play to express emotions and work through psychosocial difficulties. Play therapy is performed by trained therapists in a child friendly environment that generally has toys that appeal to children. Through the use of play, the therapist engages with the child.
